Indoor complexes

In anticipation of winter for many fans of beach tennis is becoming an actual question about indoor courts for training and tournaments during the cold season. We asked the representatives of different countries about where they play in the cold season.

San Marino

Stefano Pazzini: In January 2016 we will have an indoor center with 5 courts of beach tennis 2 paddle and 2 squash.

Latvia

Marina Trefilova: In Riga there are 3 indoor complex:

1. The Centre of beach sports "Brazil" opened in 2009, located on the road to the Riga airport. "Brazil" is consists of two parts — professional sports Centre (4 courts can be used for beach volleyball, beach tennis, football, badminton) and a zone for quiet rest with the largest in Riga sandbox. Cafe with friendly prices, a children's area, good opportunities for holding events and celebrations. Brazil is very popular with beach volleyball players, less popular with beach tennis players, as lighting "blinds" on Sunny days (we have large windows, a center opened in ex-car dealership). The prices are quite high (up to 50 euros on weekdays in the evening prime-time).

2. The Centre "Beach Box" was opened in 2013, located close enough to the city center, the place on the territory of the sports club WEF. In the lobby area of 1000 sq. m. four sites, suitable not only for volleyball but also for other types of beach sports. Includes a relaxation area with bar. This year they have a completely new sand. Also, as in Brazil, has its own beach volleyball Academy, which holds regular tournaments. For beach tennis players it is not the best lighting. In summer also available open base ELKOR (with 5 courts). The prices are lower than in Brazil, the center itself looks more simple.

3. Well, our favorite Centre "O-Sands", which opened last year in the heart of the city, in the premises of the Olympic Centre Riga, close to Arena Riga, the largest sports and entertainment hall of the capital, where we have all hockey games and most concerts.

Four volleyball and tennis courts, very good quality sand, bleachers to seat 200 persons. Since O-Sands is the largest sports construction of Riga, along with a swimming pool, basketball, volleyball and track and field facilities, a tennis court and gym, offers the entire infrastructure of the Olympic Centre. The Latvian Union Beach Tennis concluded an agreement with the leadership of the O-Sands on the development of beach tennis, the sport centre has provided us with the most friendly prices, so here are almost all of our tournaments fall / winter series as well as regular training of the national teams (Adult and Junior) and the School of beach tennis. Quartz sand, clean, not dusty. The O-Sands have a good high - more than 12m, so the absolute feeling of comfort when playing.

Overall, we can say that nothing was built especially for beach sports: Brazil was a car dealership, Beach Box is a gym of former VEF factory, O-Sands is located in the Olympic Centre. Everywhere the sand is warm, the temperature is comfort, so we are ready for the cold season.

Already scheduled fun activities on 17-20 December - Christmas charity weekend. Glad to see everyone!

I also want to Express special thanks to Mr. Samoilov and Mr. Smedinga, our volleyball players, world champions, for the development of beach sports in the country and such generous conditions for training.

Hungary

Aniko Kovacs: We have one center in Budapest with 5 indoor courts.

Austria

Martin Shmidt: I am owner of one indoor complex. Temperature is about 19 degrees sand is cold but ok in "beach and racket sport", people most time play beach volleyball and the rest beach tennis. My indoor complex is the only club where people play beach tennis - in Vienna and whole Austria.

Estonia

Priit Pihl: We have one complex with 2 courts close to Tartu, and one 1-court place in Viljandi, where I live, so 3 indoor courts for the whole country. Mainly for beach volleyball. Sand is not heated. U can play all winter.
No swimming pool, small changing rooms, that’s it. The room is warm, they use radiators on the walls. It is a permanent building, so it's indoor all the time, but people prefer to play outside in the summer, so I’m not sure it's even open in the summer.

Switzerland

Laura Gali: Our country yes, only in one city, in Bern, they have 3 indoor courts. In the rest of Switzerland we don't have indoor facilities.

Russia

Ekaterina Davydova: In our country there are several indoor facilities to play beach sports. So we have indoor courts in Samara, Saratov and Moscow. The largest in Russia and one of the largest in Europe is located in Saint Petersburg. In December 2010 at the sports center "Dynamite" opened the Center for beach sports with the same name. The Centre is the first such appointment in the North-West of our country and one of the few complexes for beach sports, both in Russia and in neighboring countries. All-season Centre "Dynamite" is unique. It includes the playing arena with an area of 4 300 sq m and complex with comfortable male and female changing rooms, showers, and fitness café. Arena has 9 beach volleyball courts (beach tennis) and 1 full-sized field for beach football, beach handball or rugby, which may optionally be transformed into playgrounds for beach volleyball or beach tennis. The height of the playpen is 10 m. Coating – a specially prepared fractionated quartz sand for playing sports (from which removed large inclusions and small dust-forming fraction) with heating system that allows to conduct training and competitions in the cold season and traditionally play barefoot in any weather without feeling any discomfort.

On the territory of Centre "Dynamite" regularly holds competitions in beach -volleyball, -soccer, -tennis: from beginner, advanced and amateurs, children and veteran levels to the competitions of city, national and international level.

For Beach tennis in Russia this complex can be called especial, since it was open it always help to the development of beach tennis in our country. Now on the courts of «Dynamite» Centre train the best athletes of the Russian national team and team of St. Petersburg.

Ekaterina Bobkova: last year in Moscow was opened a large indoor complex "Karacharovo", where on a regular basis began to train professional and amateur beach tennis players, beach volleyball and football players. However, recently due to some disagreements with the government of the city, our favorite center was cancelled and destroyed, and now the question of the training and tournaments in the cold season re-opened for the capital again.

Italy

Michele Folegatti: In Italy people can play beach tennis during all the year. There are about 100 indoor courts in all the country, especially in the north. In winter time we play tournaments as well as in summer but indoor.
In the biggest sport centers there are 9 courts. Most of them are in Emilia Romagna: region with cities like Bologna, Ravenna, Rimini, Forli. All the centers have changing rooms and heating system, so we play always in over 18 degrees.

Czech Republic

Ivan Grin: In CR we haven’t got sports areas only for BT. It’s not as popular as beach volleyball for example. But In Prague we have approx. 40 indoor courts.

Dear friends, of course, this is not all information about the indoor bt courts. We will try to inform you with new and most interesting facts in the upcoming winter season. Stay tuned with BTRUSSIA.
