In the beginning of April the international tournament in beach tennis with a prize Fund of 6500$ took place in Martinique. Second week in a row Russian athletes become champions and finalists. So two Russian doubles: Julia Chubarova / Liudmila Nikoyan and Irina Glimakova / Regina Livanova met in the final in women's category. Chubarova/ Nikoyan won the final with the score 6/3 6/3.
Men's doubles final was also not without the Russians: Ivan Syrov/Igor Panin reached the final match, where they were lost to Italians Michele Cappelletti/ Luca Carli. In another tournament with a prize Fund of 10 000$, which was held in Brazil, our Nikita Burmakin with Tommaso Giovannini stopped only in a step away from the finals, losing in the semifinals to Alessandro Calbucci/Niccolo Strano from Italy.

We were able to talk to Irina Glimakova, the finalist of tournament in Martinique and the winner in single event in Guadeloupe!

BTRUSSIA: Tell us about Guadeloupe. Was it difficult to acclimate?

Irina: The flight to Guadeloupe was long, but the period of acclimatization was short and ok for me. I have never really felt the time difference effect and I felt even better. I went to bed earlier than in Russia and woke up early too, felt great! Weather conditions were also able to adapt quickly. Sometimes it was windy, but I figured out how to play with the wind and use it to advantage. It was tough to use to the sand, it was very hard. A very small layer of sand, and really hard. But overall everything was comfortable.

BTRUSSIA: What do you remember of the attractions? What did you bring as a souvenir?

Irina: Organizers took us on a tour, we visited the waterfall, we walked through the jungle by a dangerous way, but we were all together and everyone helped each other, so it all went without any trouble. It wasn't a huge waterfall, as I imagined, but the mysterious and the path to it was very exciting. It was my first dip in the waterfall and this feeling, of course, was indescribable. All the tiredness disappear, I felt such a lightness and freshness that I had not even noticed how quickly I back up. After this we visited a very beautiful beach with white sand and turquoise water, I think the cimmercial for "the bounty" was filmed there! As for Souvenirs, my mom collects plates (souvenir) from all countries and I am always try to find it. But this time, instead of plates, I brought a wooden Crab with a map of Guadeloupe. I thought it was unusual and very well showing the atmosphere of the island.

BTRUSSIA: What about Martinique?

Irina: In Martinique was a very different beach! Black sand, which is wildly heated so it was impossible to stand on, and even socks were not always help. But I was lucky and in the main matches, the weather was okand it was comfortable to play. During the mixed doubles the sand was so hot that in the middle of the game I ran to the water to cool off my feet (although i was in socks) and then guys told me that I shouldn’t do that and it’s could be worse now, but nothing happened and I continue to play. The Atmosphere was friendly and I was very pleased with this tournament!

BTRUSSIA: What do you think about including singles matches to professional category with scoring in the classification? And what are the principal differences between singles and traditional doubles competition?

Irina: I think it would be cool and interesting. There a lot of differences: from the size of the court to the tactics and strategy of the introduction of the match. In singles all the balls are "yours" and nobody can hold your back!

BTRUSSIA: What's your opinion about the choice of a partner on the game? It must always be one and the same person or they should be changed depending on the tournament?

Irina: Of course, it is better to have one partner and play a major and important tournaments with one person and train together, but try to play with other players is also useful and even necessary sometimes.

BTRUSSIA: What do you think is better for you to play all the time with one partner or to change different partners? And who is your main partner for this season?

Niccolo: Definitely play with the same partner is better because then you get used and find tune to play with him. I will play this season with Gian Maria Pazzaglia.

BTRUSSIA: Everyone has long known your vision racket Strange. Tell us how it has changed over time and what new and unique qualities it has now?

Niccolo: Strange was born six years ago, thanks to Geo Orsini. Every year we try to improve it both aesthetically but especially internally, with new tires, 22 mm thick for a couple of years working fine and this year we have also added drilling in the upper circle. It is very elastic and helps you a lot. It’s very easy to use and above all the racket is very PINK!
